Detailed information
Content: the aim is to introduce students to the issue of misinformation and critical thinking in the form of a gamified workshop. In 90 minutes students will try to search and verify information, detect manipulations in photos and spot a hoax and distinguish it from verified news. They also practice close reading and critical reading comprehension while solving the tasks.
In solving the tasks, they work directly with specific passages of the Constitution of the Czech Republic and the Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms, which they must practically apply to the candidates’ specific programmes.
A very important part of the game is the final reflection in which we connect the experience of the game to real-life situations. We will explain how what they have experienced in the game is manifested in real-life politics and media, for example, and how they can use the skills and abilities they have acquired in the game in everyday life. We will also discuss the negative effects of misinformation on our lives and present reasons why it is important to verify information.
Equipment needed: projector and screen/interactive whiteboard/TV, speaker and computer.
